Pet insurance as an employee benefit, could that really be true? Due to our current tough economic times, most employers these days are scaling back the benefits that they offer employees. Interestingly enough, the perk of pet insurance is gaining popularity.
Typically the monthly policy cost is paid by the employee, however through their company they may receive a discount of 5% - 15% off the cost of a policy. Since there isn't any company expense, many employers are looking into providing pet insurance to their employees. Employees should ensure the provider chosen by their employer is one they would be satisfied with. While the discount is nice, you don't want to find out your insurance company is up to snuff after you need them. If your employer doesn't offer pet insurance, it might be worth a call to your Human Relations department to see if it is something that has been considered. With the low (or no) cost to the employer, it might just become an available benefit. |
